My Hopes for World Mental Health Day

world-mental-health-day-resize

My hopes for World Mental Health Day:

That no man should feel ashamed of expressing his emotions

That no man will be shamed for expressing his emotions

That a man suffering mental illness will receive as much help and support as any woman going through the same

That no man with clinical depression will ever be told “man up” or “grow a set”

That the sobering high rate of male suicide is seen as a problem and not dismissed as “toxic masculinity”

That the male suicide rate will start to come down soon

That people will see that the “Real Man” narrative as damaging to male mental health

That men will receive mental health support in a way that engages with their individual needs

That mental health professionals and decision makers recognise that present provisions are failing men

That to call somebody “crazy”, “mental” or “head case” will soon be seen as offensive as any racial, xenophobic or homophobic slur

I go by the name of Frank Speaking. My blog "In the Mind of Men" (former name Chin Up, Chest High) started out as a chronicle of my mental health recovery. Now it is a forum where I discuss issues related to male mental health.
